DENNIS JAMES GRENEWICH "A Benton Original, gone too soon" Dennis James Grenewich, 54, passed from this life on Tuesday, October 20th, 2015. He spent the final year of his life at 124 Buck Hill Road, Shickshinny, finding love and faith as he lost his life to cancer. Dennis was born in Benton in 1961. He graduated from Benton High School in 1980, immediately joining the U. S. Army, stationed in Germany and returning to Benton in 1986. Upon his return he started working at the Benton Foundry, where he was employed for 17 years. He was married for 13 years and was devastated when it ended in divorce. He gave up hope and lost control of his life. His drug use and drinking took over his life. He lost his job, and went "off the grid". He lived "homeless" for three years in Benton, sleeping in the park, bumming rooms or food by trading his labor. All of those people are appreciated. He was preceded in death by a brother. He has three surviving brothers and is survived by his mother. Though they knew of his illness they made no effort to contact him. Dennis had cut his family ties a long time ago, hurt cut both ways. He enjoyed fishing, camping out, and drinking beer around camp fires. He read the Press Enterprise everyday to read about Benton. He was interested in the school sports and the Hess Hotel, where he lived mostly. He was an avid Sudoku puzzler. He enjoyed the outdoors as a whole, bird watching and eagle sightings. He was thankful for warm days. His last year, he found love, hope and faith. He met a woman who saw his potential. He started working at Benton Sewing (yes, Benton does have a sewing factory). He quit using drugs and started to believe in himself again. He never aspired to be great, but to those who really knew him, he was the LIFE of our life. Memorial Services with Military Honors will be held Saturday, October 24, 2015 at 11 AM at the McMichael Funeral Home, Inc., 4394 Red Rock Road, Benton with Pastor Scott Lyons, Stillwater Christian Church, officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Funeral Home to assist with his final expenses or better yet, go meet a homeless person.
