Robert W. "Bob" Leiby

Robert W. "Bob" Leiby, 87, of Leiby Road, Elysburg, died Wednesday evening, January 13th, 2016 at his home. Born February 29, 1928 in Ralpho Township, he was a son of the late Raymond and Jeanette (Watkins) Leiby. He and his wife, Nancy J. (Carl) Leiby, would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on March 10th. Mr. Leiby attended Ralpho Township schools in Elysburg. He faithfully served his country in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. Following his return from the military he was employed by the former Magee Carpet Company of Bloomsburg for 25 years. He also owned and operated "Leiby Farm", a Centennial Farm, which was established in 1835. He was well known throughout the area for his work ethic and for the fruit that his farm produced. He was an active member of Bethel United Methodist Church, Catawissa where he was a Sunday School teacher. He had been awarded a certificate for 50 years of perfect attendance. He was also a lay speaker for the United Methodist Church. An avid outdoorsman, he especially enjoyed hunting. Surviving, in addition to his wife, Nancy, are his three children; Robert E. Leiby and his wife, Janet, of Shortsville, NY; David L. Leiby and his wife, Linda, of Shamokin; Janet K. Kovach and her husband, David, of Berwick; eight grandchildren: Aaron, Ben, Chrisanne, Sarah, Rebekah, Philip, Christopher, and Natasha. Also surviving are 16 great grandchildren and the following siblings: Bertlett Leiby and his wife, Jane, of Bloomsburg; Esther Snyder and her husband, Doyle, of Bloomsburg; James Leiby and his wife, Velma, of DuBois; Dora Oman and her husband, Gene, of Bloomsburg as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters: Margaret Williams, Helen Molz and Geraldine Horne. Funeral Services will be held Monday, January 18th, 2016 at 11:30 AM at the Bethel United Methodist Church, Bethel Road, Catawissa with the Rev. Kermit Minnick, officiating. A Viewing will be held Monday from 10 AM until the time of the Service at the Church. Burial will be in the Bethel Cemetery with military honors conducted by a combined Veteran's group.
