Mahlon L. Fritz, Sr.

Mahlon L. Fritz, Sr., 77, of Bottom Road, Orangeville, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, March 25, 2011 at the Select Specialty Hospital at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. Born in Benton on March 24, 1934, he was a son of the late Clyde L. Fritz and Annabelle V. (Bachman) Fritz. He was widowed from his wife of 50 years, Donna (Hayman) Fritz who was the love of his life. She entered heaven on September 19, 2008. He was a 1952 graduate of Benton High School, a 1961 graduate of Bloomsburg State College where he earned a B.A. in Education, followed by an M.A. in Business Education and Accounting in 1968. Following high school, Mahlon entered the U.S. Navy with his best friend, Blair Whitenight. He served during the Korean War from 1952 to 1956. He remained as an active reservist until 1960. Mahlon began his working career as a young man in Benton, delivering milk for Grant Brink. He also worked for Magee Carpet, Bloomsburg. In 1961 he began a nineteen year teaching career in the Business Dept. at Millville High School. He was well respected by both his students and fellow colleagues. He continued teaching on a part-time basis from 1986 through 1994 as a Business Professor at Bloomsburg University. After his years at Millville High School he remained active as an administrator with two nursing home facilities from 1981-1992. Mahlon was a licensed independent insurance agent from 1976 through the mid 1990's and was a founder of the Fritz Insurance Agency. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and their friends, especially on historical trips to national landmarks and museums. He collected school house clocks and miniature model cars and was a member of the Cubs Nest Hunting Club of Red Rock. Mahlon attended the Faith Bible Church in Orangeville. He is survived by his children: Mahlon L. Fritz, Jr. & wife, Betty, Illinois; Carl A. Fritz, Sr. & wife, Becky, Benton; and Robin S. Fritz & wife, Martha, Orangeville. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, one great granddaughter and a brother, Jerry D. Fritz & wife, Peggy, Benton. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings: Norma A. Raski; Carl A. Fritz, Robert A. "Wiffle" Fritz and C. Larue Fritz. His funeral service will be Wednesday, March 30th at 11 AM at the McMichael Funeral Home, Inc., 4394 Red Rock Rd., Benton. Rev. Franklin F. Hayman and Rev. Arthur Lee Hayman will officiate. Interment will be in St. James Cemetery, Fishing Creek Twp. An evening visitation will be held Tuesday, March 29th from 6 - 8 PM at the funeral home.
