Mahlon Thomas Hartman

Mahlon Thomas Hartman, 82, of Cambra, died Saturday, January 11th, 2014 at Grandview Health Homes, Inc., Danville, where he had been a resident since April 2012. Born July 9, 1931 in Benton, he was a son of the late Loys T. and Ethel E. (Davis) Hartman. He was preceded in death by his two wives: Pauline Elizabeth (Knouse) Hartman on February 12, 1988 and Marjorie (Hess) Steiner Hartman on June 18, 2002. Mr. Hartman was a graduate of Benton High School, Class of 1950. He also took International Correspondence courses for electrical plating. He was employed by U. S. Radium in Bloomsburg for more than 40 years as a lab chemist/electrical plating foreman. Mr. Hartman was a long time member of the Town Hill United Methodist Church where he had served in numerous capacities including treasurer of the Trustee board. He mowed the church lawn for many years and also worked the concession stand at the Bloomsburg Fair. He was a member of Oriental Lodge, F. & A. M., of Orangeville and had been a member of the Barbershoppers. His hobbies included hunting, camping and singing. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Surviving are his five children: Shirley Bonham and her husband, Ken, of Huntington Mills; Donna Nork and her husband, Ed, of Hanover Twp.; Diane Wisniewski and her husband, David, of Pennsylvania Furnace; Debbie Hartman, of Bloomsburg; Mahlon Thomas Hartman, II, and his wife, Angey, of Benton; 8 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; 2 sisters: Edith Witchey and her husband, Robert, of Lightstreet; Alice Strauch and her husband, Ronald, of Benton; 2 sister-in-laws: Barbara Hartman, of Benton and Pearl Rice Hartman, of Berwick; numerous nieces and nephews; 3 step children: Daniel Steiner, of Clarks Summit; Dennis Steiner, of Lancaster; Kimberly Grassley, of Orangeville; 8 step grandchildren and 7 step great grandchildren. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers: Zane L. Hartman on April 27, 2005 and Bion W. Hartman on December 30, 2013. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, January 18th, 2014 at10 A. M. at the McMichael Funeral Home, Inc., 4394 Red Rock Road, Benton (S. R. 487) with Rev. Bethany Wood, his pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Cambra Cemetery. A viewing will be held Friday evening from 6 to 8 PM at McMichael's. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Town Hill United Methodist Church, 417 Town Hill Road, Shickshinny, PA 18655.
