H. Lavenia (Deitrick) Campbell

H. Lavenia (Deitrick) Campbell, 97, of Raven Creek, died Monday afternoon, July 2nd, 2012 at the home of her daughter, Sheila Thompson, of Stillwater. Born April 4, 1915 in Stillwater, she was a daughter of the late Alfred and Zella (Golder) Deitrick. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry M. Campbell, of 46 years on December 10, 1997. Mrs. Campbell was a 1933 graduate of Benton High School and then attended a beauty school in Hazelton and became a licensed hairdresser. She was later employed by the former Dockey Shirt Factory and Dol Ang Manufacturing in Benton. She also had a produce route in the Wilkes-Barre area for many years. She was a very active member of the Raven Creek Presbyterian Church where she was a Sunday School Teacher for 50 years and an Elder. She was instrumental in starting the Raven Creek Trading Post in the early 1970's. She was an auditor for the Sugarloaf Township for 12 years and was a member of the Columbia County Historical Society. Her hobbies included gardening, quilting and spending time with her family. But most of all what she would want to be remembered for is being a special Gram. Surviving are her children: Jolene Stackhouse and her husband, Arnold, of Stillwater; Elaine Myers, Benton; Edward L. Campbell and his wife, Nancy, of Bloomsburg; Richard O. Campbell, of Benton; Sheila Thompson of Stillwater; Cathy Beck and her husband, Barry, of Benton; Kay Stanton and her companion, David Hampton, of Benton; 24 grandchildren; 47 great grandchildren, 19 great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Alfred "Tom" Gulliver; 3 sisters: Sylvia D. Edgar; Alice "L.V." Horn; Evelyn Adkins; a grandson, John Blackburn and a great granddaughter, Elise Cooper. Funeral Services will be held Friday, July 6th, 2012 at 11A. M. at the McMichael Funeral Home, Inc., 4394 Red Rock Road, Benton (Rt. 487) with the Rev. Gary Emrick and Pastor David Bronson, officiating. Burial will be in the Raven Creek Cemetery. A Viewing will be held Friday from 9 AM until the time of the Service at 11:00 at McMichael's. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Raven Creek Presbyterian Church, 999 Upper Raven Creek Road, Benton, PA 17814.
