John W. Tucker

John Wesley Tucker, 65, of Clifton Drive, Bloomsburg, died suddenly at the Emergency Room of the Geisinger Bloomsburg Hospital after being stricken ill at his home on Saturday, August 3rd, 2013. Born September 24, 1947 in Leonardtown, Maryland, he was a son of the late Howard and Katherine (Balta) Tucker . He and his wife, Sally B. (Brewington) Tucker, celebrated their 34th wedding anniversary on March 7th. Mr. Tucker was a graduate of Archbishop Carroll High School in Washington, DC and then earned his B. S. and Masters degrees from the University of Maryland. A highly decorated Veteran, he faithfully served his country in the U. S. Coast Guard in the Vietnam War. He had been awarded the Coast Guard Distinguished Service Medal, the Purple Heart with Gold Star, Coast Guard Commendation Medal, the Presidential Unit Citation, the Vietnam Presidential Unit Citation, the Coast Guard Unit Commendation, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Chien Djck Boi Tink '65-'66, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Quan Cong Boi Tink (Rep. of Vietnam Meritorious Service Medal) the National Defense Service Medal, the Coast Guard Good Conduct Medal, the Coast Guard Expert Rifleman Medal, the Coast Guard Expert Pistol Shot Medal and the National Match Marksman Medal. Mr. Tucker was an Environmental Engineer and had been employed by Gannet Fleming Engineers in Camp Hill for the past 25 years. He was a member of Christ The King Catholic Church of Benton where he served on the finance committee. He was also a member of the Bloomsburg Lions Club. He loved spending time with his family. Surviving, in addition to his wife, Sally, are his 5 children: Tracy Wathen of Altamonte Springs, FL; Sara Morgan and her husband, Matt, of Longwood, FL; Amanda Savage and her husband, Jerod, of Lanai, HI; Aaron Tucker of Rockville, MD; Adam Tucker and his fiancé, Nichole, of Mifflinville. Also surviving are 6 grandsons: Tucker, Hunter, Cooper, Parker, and Twins: Tanner and Miller; a brother, Howard Tucker and his wife, Jean, of Virginia. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, August 8th, 2013 at 11 A. M. at Christ the King Catholic Church, Mendenhall Lane, Benton, with Father Joseph Fennessy, as celebrant. Burial will be in the Stillwater Cemetery will full military honors. A Visitation will be held Thursday from 10 AM until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11 at Christ the King Church.
