Joan V. (Davis) Oman

Joan (Davis) Oman, 72, of rural Bloomsburg, Mt. Pleasant Township, died Sunday morning, December 12th, 2010 at her home following a brief illness. Born May 12, 1938 in Zion Grove, she was a daughter of the late Ellis and Erdie (Michael) Davis. She and her husband, Gene E. Oman, celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary on June 13th. Joan was educated in the Nuremburg and Beaver Schools and later graduated from Bloomsburg High School in 1956. She was also a graduate of the Geisinger School of Nursing in Danville where she earned her Registered Nurse degree. She had been employed as an R. N. at Geisinger Medical Center in the Pediatric department for several years. She was also involved, with her husband, with Amway for many years and was also a Longaberger Baskets consultant. A very active member of Shiloh Bible Church in Almedia, she was in charge of the Greeters Committee. She had also assisted with Daily Vacation Bible School, the annual Mother-Daughter Banquet as well as other church functions. She was a passionate volunteer for the American Cancer Society and was especially proud to help establish a trust fund through Geisinger Medical Center to provide mammograms for underprivileged women. Joan enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Her hobbies included sewing and knitting. Surviving, in addition to her husband, Gene, are her children: David A. Oman and his wife, Susan; Lynn M. Belles and her husband, Paul L., all of Bloomsburg; 12 grandchildren; one great grandson; two brothers: Myron E. Davis and his wife, Betty, of Zion Grove; Mark H. Davis and his wife, Marge, of Wilmington, Delaware and numerous nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan G. Fagan on May 9th, 2010; three sisters: Jean D. Pennington on March 7, 2005; Lois Yohe in 1966 and Lorraine Temple in 2004. A private family viewing and graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family. A public Memorial Service will be held Wednesday at 11:30 AM at Shiloh Bible Church, 123 Church Street, Almedia, with the Rev. Dr. Douglas Lyon, officiating.
