Jamie G. Houseknecht

Jamie G. Houseknecht, 27, of Boalsburg, Centre County, and formally from the Benton area, died early Saturday morning, April 3rd, 2010 from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident in Sugarloaf Township. He was born on September 4, 1982 in Williamsport and was a 2001 graduate of Columbia Montour Vocational Technical School where he was president of his class. While in high school, he was also president of the Vocational Industrial Club of America (VICA) and involved with that organization for three years. He was also vice president of the Student Council and the National Honor Society. He then graduated from Penn Tech where he earned his associate degree in Applied Sciences. He later went to Penn State University and Bloomsburg University where he graduated in 2007 with a B. S. in Chemistry. Jamie had been employed by Penn State University, State College, where he was a research assistant for the past two years. Prior to that he had been employed by Beckton Dickinson in North Carolina where he did research. An avid outdoorsman he was a member of the Pennsylvania Bow Hunter's Association. He loved hunting, fishing, and sailing. He especially enjoyed spring turkey hunting with his Dad. He also enjoyed spending time with his dogs, Bernadette and Sassy. Surviving, are his girlfriend, Allison M. Sharpe, of Boalsburg; his father, Jay G. Houseknecht and his wife, Michele Verdone, of Benton; his mother, Leslie A. (Michael) Umstead and her husband, George, of Hughesville; a brother, Justin M. Houseknecht of Dayton, Ohio; a sister, Rylee A. Houseknecht of Hughesville; 2 step brothers: Ryan G. Umstead, of Hummelstown; Michael Verdone, of Benton; his grandparents: June Houseknecht, of Muncy; Joanne Rogers of Muncy; Weldon Michael and his wife, Barbara, of South Williamsport; his great grandmother, Florence Michael, of Danville as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by grandfathers, Robert K. Houseknecht and Wilbur Rogers. Graveside Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, April 7th, 2010 at 2 PM at Gordner's Cemetery, Unityville, with the Rev. Ronald G. Montgomery, pastor of St. John's Lutheran Church, Unityville, officiating. A Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 PM at the McMichael Funeral Home, Inc, 4394 Red Rock Road, Benton (Rt. 487).
