James E. "Jimmie" Wood

Our beloved husband, father and brother, James E. "Jimmie" Wood, age 81, joined his Lord and Savior on Monday, August 20th, 2012. He passed peacefully at home in the care of his loving family. Jimmie was born in Benton on October 11, 1930, the son of D. Richard and Helen M. (Fritz) Wood. He attended schools in Waller, Huntington Mills and Benton. Jimmie deeply loved his wife, Sandy (Sones) Wood, to whom he was married for thirty years; his daughters: Jamie and her companion, Warren Engle; Sherry and her husband, Dusty Farver; and his adored grandchildren: DJ and Brandy Farver. Also surviving are his mother-in-law, Darathy Sones and his buddy, Chopper. Jimmie enjoyed farming with his father, Dick. As an adult, he owned his own farm in Waller, which he was very proud of. He enjoyed working hard and staying busy, always lending a helping hand to anyone in need. Jimmie was part of a large, close knit extended family. Along with his mother and father, whom he loved and respected very much, he had four brothers: Raymond Wood and his wife, Sandy; Richard Wood and his wife, Tina; Chuck Wood and his wife, Dolly and the late Albert Wood and his surviving wife, Mary Ann. He also had five sisters: Irma Jeanne Vansock (Andy, deceased); Elaine Honse (Jim, deceased), Judy Search (Art), Mary Gaye Kline (Bob) and Helen Rupert (Ray) and many nieces and nephews. Jimmie served his country with honor in the U. S. Army, 3rd Armored Division in Fort Knox, Kentucky and was then stationed in Germany. He was a past commander of the Benton V. F. W. Post 8317. He also drove milk truck, worked for Penn-DOT, worked construction in Laramie, Wyoming; drove truck for Country Maid Sportswear, worked for Stoney Acres Landscaping and the Orelli Paint Shop. He also mowed lawn for friends and neighbors for many years. Jimmie attended Faith Bible Church in Orangeville and was truly grateful for their friendships, prayer and support through the years. Funeral Services will be held Friday, August 24th, 2012 at 11 AM at the Faith Bible Church, 1810B S. R. 487, Orangeville with his Pastor Michael L. Shingler, officiating. Burial will be in the Waller Cemetery with full military honors accorded by a joint veterans group. At the request of the deceased there will be no public viewing. There will be a Visitation at the Church Friday morning from 10 AM until the time of the Service at 11:00. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Faith Bible Church or to the American Cancer Society, Columbia County Unit, 1420 N. Susquehanna Trail, Selinsgrove, PA 17870.
