Edith E. (Young) Hess

Edith E. (Young) Hess, 94, of Mendenhall Road, Benton, died early Saturday morning, May 24, 2014 at Emeritus at Bloomsburg where she had been a resident for the past three years. Born February 7, 1920 in Laporte, Sullivan County, she was a daughter of the late Clifton J. and Jenny L. (Snyder) Young. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Fred J. Hess, on March 8, 2012. She attended school in Laporte and Dushore. She had been employed by the former Dockey Shirt Factory in Benton and also assisted her husband with the operation of the family farm. Mrs. Hess was a member of the Waller United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. Her hobbies included gardening, reading, puzzles and word-searches. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Surviving are her two sons: Larry D. Hess and his wife, Gloria, of Benton; James R. Hess and his wife, Debora, of North Hampton, NH; 3 grandchildren: Holly Fetterman, Cerissa Getz and Aaron Hess; 3 great grandchildren: Erin Fetterman, Andy Fetterman and Abigail Getz and siblings: Caroline Fulmer, Orangeville; Jean Hess and her husband, Robert, of Benton; Arlene Bardo and her husband, Cecil, of Bloomsburg and Norma Sweeney and her husband, Scott, of Benton. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Gregory D. Hess in 1970; an infant daughter, Sandra Hess in 1946 and by the following brothers and sisters: Ethel Hess, Calvin Young, Gladys Hallabuck, Max Young, Alonzo "Dade" Young, Helen Young, Louise Hartman and Myron Young. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, May 29th, 2014 at 11 A. M. at the McMichael Funeral Home, Inc., 4394 Red Rock Road, Benton (Rt. 487) with Pastor Matt Verstraeten, her pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Waller Cemetery, Jackson Township. A viewing will be held Thursday from 10 AM until the time of the Service at 11, at McMichael's. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Waller United Methodist Church or the Waller Memorial Hall Association, c/o Shirley Fulmer, 640 Waller Road, Benton, PA 17814.
