Clifford J. Kline

Clifford J. Kline, 91, of Hemlock Drive, Shickshinny, passed away on Friday, August 23rd, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family and under the care of Columbia Montour Home Hospice. He was born May 3, 1922 at the family homestead in Fishing Creek Township, a son of the late Millard and Edna (Snyder) Kline. He and his loving wife, Martha J. (Remphrey) Kline, celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary on July 28th. Mr. Kline attended the former Jonestown one room school and then the former Union High School in Fishing Creek Township. He graduated from Benton High School in 1940. He was a dairy farmer his entire life until retiring in 1978. He received the Columbia County Conservation District R. J. Campbell Award Cooperator of the Year in 1974. Mr. Kline drove school bus for the Benton Area School District for many years and also served on the Benton Area School Board. He was a member of the Jonestown United Methodist Church where he had served as a trustee and on the auditing committee. He was also a former member of the Odd Fellows Lodge of New Columbus and the Dairymen's League and had been on the board of trustees of the Dodson Cemetery Association. He enjoyed singing with the Columbia Montour Chapter of Barbershop Harmony Society for many years. He was an avid reader and enjoyed his daily walks. He also enjoyed playing cards and watching baseball, especially his favorite team, the Philadelphia Phillies. In his earlier years he enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling with friends. Surviving, in addition to his wife, Martha, are his 5 children; Phillip Jay Kline and his wife, Carol, of Kaska, PA; Gloria Jane Sutton and her husband, Pat, of Shickshinny; Donna Marie Rubosky and her husband, Charles, of Spokane, WA; Denise Ann Hack and her husband, Randy, of Stillwater; Debbie Lou Manley and her husband, Anthony, Spokane, WA; 8 grandchildren: Jennifer, Julie, Trisha, Cortni, Alan, Michelle, Kasey and Michael; 5 great grandchildren: Austin, Colton, Robyn, Taylor and Daniel. Also surviving are two brothers: Melvin Kline and his wife, Betty Jean, of Stillwater and W. Franklin Kline and his wife, Jean, of Bloomsburg. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Russell C. Hack and by a sister, Elsie Kline Remphrey. A Memorial Service celebrating Clifford's life will be held on Saturday, August 31, 2013 at 11 AM at the Jonestown United Methodist Church with the Rev. Darwin C. Goshorn, his Pastor, officiating. There will be a visitation from 10 AM until the time of the Service at 11 at the Church. Private interment will take place at Dodson Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
