Charles V. McMains

Charles Van McMains, of New York City died peacefully, December 13, 2015 after a brief illness. He was 91 years old. Born in New Kensington, PA March 3, 1924, Charles was the son of Charles Van Sr. and Ruth Naomi Singleton. He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Kathleen Sutliff McMains, to whom he was devoted. After returning home to Westchester, as an airman in WWII China-Burma-India Theater, Chuck married his A.B. Davis high school sweetheart Doris Ash with whom he had two daughters, Pamela Denny of Montclair, NJ and Laurie Singleton of Naples, FL. He had one brother Denny McMains who predeceased him; he leaves a niece Kate and nephew Andrew McMains. He has three step-children Ben Gault of Sebring, FL and Kathy (Linda) Faryon of Jacksonville, FL and her two children, and Gary Gault who predeceased him and his wife Barbara Gault and their two children. His dear grandchildren are Pamela Mellon Hetz and her husband Brian, Hunter Mellon and his wife Heather and their daughter Kennedy (Chuck’s first great grandchild), Robert Cannon, Garrett McCarthy, all of Chicago area. Jesse Good and his wife Dana with Harper (Chuck’s second great granddaughter) live in Livingston, NJ and Jason Good and his companion, Rebecca, of Brooklyn, NY. Michael Gault, Suzy Gault are from Spring Valley, PA, as are Carly Faryon and Reggie Faryon from Ontario, Canada. Chuck leaves behind his two beloved felines, Tyco and Kyling, who will always know they were loved by two very special parents in the legacy of love they were left. Mr. McMains received a commercial art degree from The Franklin School of Art in Manhattan, NY and began his career as an ad man in the ‘50s with Fuller, Smith and Ross. He went on to work as director of advertising with JC Penney Company, was an executive with Paramount Pictures New York Offices and later as director of purchasing for FW Woolworth Company. In his long career he introduced in-store media, the first of its kind. His affiliation with the Masonic Community of NYC spanned fifty years of dedication to his Brotherhood whom he loved and committed so much of his energy to. The last few years of Charles’ life were spent with Kathleen at the Masonic Care Community in Utica, NY. We are grateful to their care-givers, who join us in our loss, and whose tireless efforts provided much comfort to this sweet couple. We continue to appreciate this care and kindness.
